Michael Berghoff, the Founder and President of Lenex Steel was the keynote speaker during Wednesday’s Knox County Development Corporation’s Annual Meeting.

Lenex Steel acquired Wabash Steel in Vincennes back in 2015. Berghoff says he had had his eye on the local plant for some time. He says acquiring the Vincennes plant allowed his company to diversify it’s business opportunities.

But he quickly added that’s only one of the reason’s why he was attracted to the city.

Bergoff says since acquiring the Vincennes Plant they’ve increased the workforce and shifted additional work here to be completed. One of the projects the local plant has worked on is producing steel beams for the University of Notre Dame’s Football Stadium renovations.

Berghoff jokingly told the audience his dream is to pull off his own Huckleberry Finn Expedition by loading some steel girders on a barge in Vincennes and float down the Wabash River eventually ending up in St. Louis. Berghoff added he’s still looking for volunteers to help him complete his dream.
