Knox County’s Bicentennial Committee is soliciting funds to help with events celebrating the state’s 200th Birthday this year.

Speaking to members of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, Committee co-chair Mark Hill said as part of the statewide celebration, an olympic style torch will be traveling to all 92 counties. Hill says the torch will arrive at Grouseland the weekend of September 10th and 11th.

The committee is planning on having bands, a parade and other events to coincide with the Torch’s arrival in Knox County. However, Hill says the state isn’t providing any additional funding to help with local events.

To kick-off local fund raising efforts, a St. Patrick’s Day Party will be held at the Harmony Society in Vincennes on March 17th. starting at 4 pm. Reservations can be emailed to Knox1816@gmail.com

Hill says individuals interested in contributing to the campaign can contact Ann Hecht, Emily Bunyan or Shirley Rose.
