Washington Mayor Joe Wellman recently got back from a two week trip to Japan.  He told the city council last night he visited several cities and met with industrial leaders.  The Japanese put a high emphasis on building relationships and Wellman says that was the intention of the trip…….

The Mayor also met with officials of the Japanese External Trade Organization and the U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Caroline Kennedy.    As he met with business leaders and manufacturers, the motive of course is to eventually attract investments and jobs to the area.

With that in mind the council last night did approve an inter-local co-operation agreement with Daviess County for the joint development and planning of about 3000 acres in all four quadrants of the I69 interchange area east of Washington.  Mayor Wellman said that since the area included land in the city and county, the agreement would provide a framework for efficient development of the area.
