WTHI is reporting that a Lawrence County, Illinois deputy is ok aftera a gunfire exchange during a traffic stop last night.
Lawrence County State’s Attorney, Chris Quick confirmed evening a deputy shot a man after the man fired first on the deputy.
Quick stated a bullet proof vest likely saved the deputy’s life.
The suspect, who is not being identified at this time, was transported to an area hospital.
Quick said he approved a search warrant for further investigation. Illinois State Police are following up on the incident.
