KCDC looking to attract young people to the county

Providing activities that will attract young singles and families to locate in Knox County is part of a strategic plan being put together by the Knox County Development Corporation.

KCDC Executive Director Kent Utt says while growing the job base is important, it’s not always the deciding factor in drawing people to the community.

Things like recreational opportunities, specialty shops and cultural activities are all things Utt says younger people are looking for when deciding where to live and work.

Utt added another area that they haven’t taken advantage of is the county’s agriculture industry. He says there could be opportunities for local Ag-related businesses.

As part of the strategic plan, Utt says KCDC members plan on establishing focus groups that will include input from people in the community to work on a variety of issues including marketing strategies.
