Schwartz and Simmons appointed assistant vice presidents at VU

Extended Studies at Vincennes University has announced
the promotion of Matthew Schwartz to assistant vice president of Outreach
and Engagement and Shanni Simmons to assistant vice president of Lifelong
Learning.

“I am extremely pleased to have Matt and Shanni stepping into these new
roles,” said David Tucker, vice president for Workforce Development and
Community Services.  “They have proven themselves to be tremendously
valuable assets to VU over the years.  Extended Studies programs will
benefit from their ongoing and expanded leadership.”

Schwartz started his career at VU in 2001 when he joined the Office of
Admissions as an admissions counselor and was later promoted to assistant
director.  For the past decade he has served as the director of the
Military Education Program.

As assistant vice president of Outreach and Engagement, Schwartz will
provide comprehensive leadership and management of VU’s Outreach and
Engagement Division which includes the Military Education Programs,
Associated Builders and Contractors Program, and Veterans Upward Bound
Program.

Schwartz holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a master’s degree in
Public Administration from the University of Southern Indiana.  He is
currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Education from the University of
New England which he will complete later this year.  Schwartz is a veteran
of the U.S. Army and resides in Evansville.

Simmons joined VU in 2004 as an instructor for the Business/Public Service
Division.  She was promoted to course designer in 2006 for the Continuing
Studies Division.  In 2007 she became the director of VU’s Distance
Education Program.

As assistant vice president of Lifelong Learning, Simmons will provide
comprehensive leadership and management of VU’s Lifelong Learning Division
which includes Distance Education Programs, Adult Basic Education, Learning
Unlimited, and General Education programming for the VU Gibson Center.

Simmons holds an associate degree in Accounting from VU and both a
bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Organizational Management and
a master’s degree in Business Administration from Franklin University.  She
resides in Bicknell.
