State Sen. Eric Bassler of Washington has co- authored a bill that would provide tax relief for Indiana farmers.

Senate Bill 308 would reduce the rampant growth of farmland assessed value, providing much needed financial relief to Hoosier farmers. Additionally, the bill will make the farmland assessment system fairer by using more up-to-date financial data to judge how much the land is worth.

Bassler says it’s critical that steps are taken to continue supporting farmers and the agricultural industry, which plays a vital role in the state’s economy.

Historically, Bassler says low crop prices, rising business costs and unfavorable weather have all contributed to financial difficulties for farmers.
