County ISTEP results

education-2

The Indiana Department of Education released state wide ISTEP scores Wednesday. The percentage of all Indiana students passing both portions was only about 53 percent, a sharp decrease from last years percentage. A drop is to be expected after the core standards were replaced with new, Indiana written guidelines by the state legislature. The new test has been reported to be much harder than in years past. North Knox Superintendent Darrel Bobe believes the intent of the ISTEP should be simply to measure and see growth in each individual child. Bobe also believes it isn’t fair the state didn’t give them a guide of what was to be on the test to help prepare students.

South Knox school Superintendent Tim Grove says he is happy with South Knox’s overall scores, though he would like to see them reach 80 percent. Of the three public school corporations, South Knox had the highest scores. Overall, 67 percent of South Knox students who took the test passed both english and math sections. For the North Knox corporation, 49 percent passed both sections, and the Vincennes Community School Corporation had 49 percent of students passing both sections of the test. Knox County students will get a chance to raise their scores when they take the ISTEP applied skills test at the end of February.
