New emergency shelter for homeless families is ready in Vincennes

Helping His Hands is set to open their new Emergency Shelter for displaced and homeless families. Director Scott Shipman says the shelter is located at 16 East Reel Avenue and is open to families who have children.

Shipman says Helping His Hands goal is to assist the family get on their feet again and become self-sufficient again.

Shipman says they will assist in helping the adults find work. 1st Vincennes Savings has also agreed to offer financial classes to help families learn how to create a budget and balance a checkbook.

The families will also be required to keep their area clean while staying at the shelter.

Shipman says the first family is expected to occupy the shelter before Christmas. They have space to accommodate up to 8 families, plus additional room for those families who need temporary housing as a result of losing their own home to fire or some other natural disaster.
