Bicknell Mayor going out happy about his tenure

As he prepares to leave office at the end of this month. Bicknell Mayor Jon Flickinger says he’s proud of what he’s been able to accomplish over the past 8 years. During his administration, Flickinger says they were able to obtain over six-million dollars in state and federal grants which were used to build new homes, repair parts of the city’s aging infrastructure as well as making improvements along Main Street.

Flickinger says one of the things he’s most proud of is a grant program that assisted Home Owners make repairs to their existing homes

Flickinger says many of the home owners they helped were elderly and living on a fixed income, Flickinger says they also had some success in drawing new business to town. He noted that the Dollar General Market store on Highway 67 provided Bicknell residents with jobs while also attracting shoppers from not only the Northern part of Knox County, but Daviess and Greene County as well.

Flickinger decided not to seek a third term in office. Democrat Thomas Estabrook will become the city’s new chief administrator on January 1st.
