Wheatland motorist cited in personal injury crash

This morning at 7:30, Indiana State Police and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to a two-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of US 41 at County Road 550 South.

 

Preliminary investigation revealed a green 2012 International utility truck, driven by 57-year-old Owen Kemker of Wheatland, IN., was westbound on CR 550S and attempted to cross the southbound lanes of US 41. In doing so, Kemker drove into the path of a southbound blue 2005 Dodge Caravan, driven by 31-year-old Jessica Chastain of Merom, IN.

 

Jessica Chastain and her 10-year-old were transported to Sullivan County Community Hospital for treatment. Jessica for neck and leg pain and her son for chest pain.

 

Kemker reported no injuries and was cited for failure to yield right of way.

 

“Seatbelts and airbags greatly reduced the severity of injuries in this crash”, stated Senior Trooper Tom Hanks, who investigated the crash. Assisting were Sullivan County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jason Bobbitt, Sullivan County EMS, and Haddon Township Fire/Rescue.
