With Black Friday just a week away many people are preparing to stand in line at their local big chain store to get the best deal on this year’s most desired gifts.

However, many people forget about their local mom and pop stores right in their own community.

Knox County Chamber of Commerce President Marc McNeece residents to pick up a few christmas gifts from their local downtown merchants.

McNeece says when community members shop at a locally owned and operated store 80 percent of every dollar comes back to the community in the way of taxes, donations, and wages.

When you shop at a regional or national chain only 60-percent of that dollar comes back to the community. And McNeece adds for those who shop online, Zero dollars are re-invested locally.
