Kimmell Park in Vincennes will be undergoing a 2.5 million dollar face lift, courtesy of Vincennes University. At last evening’s Vincennes Parks Board meeting, the board unanimously voted to move forward with plans to deed over Kimmell Park to VU. Vincennes University Vice President for Financial Services, Phil Rath  states they are trying to acquire the 8.5 acres of land from the city to completely renovate the park. Their ideas include cleaning up the property, making a new biking and walking trail, and building a pedestrian bridge and public dock along the river. President of the Parks Board, Dr. Frank Emert, is looking forward to a new, safer, eye pleasing park….

There will still be  access for boating. VU will be in charge of coming up with the money to fund the park by acquiring grants. The next step for VU is to meet with the city council and mayor to iron out the fine details. Roth expects the project to get started soon after the council meeting.
