8th District Congressman Larry Bucshon was among the 167 Republicans voting against a budget agreement negotiated by Congressional leaders and President Obama.

The agreement passed 266 to 167 last night.  Only 79 Republicans voted for it.

Buchson says the agreement was negotiated with little input from congressional members and was not adequately vetted through the regular legislative process and presented to the House with little notice.

In a news release Buchson stated that the  Bi-Partisan Budget Act is a two year deal suspending the federal debt limit until March of 2017.  It breaks the budget caps for defense and non-defense programs passed in 2011. It adds $1.5 trillion to the current $18.1 trillion national debt and increases discretionary spending by $80 billion over two years.

Bucshon argued that the discretionary spending was increased with not enough mandatory spending reforms to offset the increase or to put the nation on track  to pay off the national debt.

He also says the farm bill was reopened and the crop insurance program was changed.  He said there was a promise to fix that at  a later date but he couldn’t trust that would happen.
