Members of the Vincennes Redevelopment Commission expressed their reluctance in paying another bill for demolition work.

Mayor Joe Yochum presented Commission Members yesterday with a bill for 200-thousand dollars for the razing of a building at 401 Main Street.

The former Kathy’s Kreations is being torn down after the building was determined unsafe by City Inspector Phil Cooper.

The Vincennes Sun Commercial quoted Board Member TIm Smith as stating that City officials need to review their enforcement codes to prevent such occurances from happening to other buildings downtown. Smith suggested that perhaps the RDC could find a way to assist with funding repairs so that they’re not always tearing down buildings.

The owner of the building Kathy Hartigan, indicated she didn’t have the money to tear the building down. Mayor Yochum indicated that a tax lien will be placed against the property so that the city can recover their costs should the vacant is sold.

 Meanwhile,

City Engineer John Sprague told members of the Vincennes Redevelopment Commission yesterday that 2nd Street will reopen to traffic soon. Sprague says contractors will begin laying the final layer of black top next week and adding lane stripes.

He also reported the city wide paving for 2015 is complete. The city spent 1-million dollars to repair city streets and add new curbing in designated parts of town. The R-D-C provided a little over 500-thousand dollars to help pay for the street work.
