The Indiana Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in the case Ramirez v. State next week at Vincennes University’s Shircliff Auditorium.

A three-member panel of judges will hear the case in which Luis A. Ramirez appeals his convictions for sexual misconduct with a minor.

Ramirez raises two issues on appeal. First, he asserts that the State failed to demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt that he knew the victim was under the age of 16. Second, Ramirez contends that certain statements made by the prosecutor during closing arguments were misconduct and entitles him to a new trial.

Following oral argument, the Court will answer questions about the judicial process in Indiana from V-U students who will be in attendance, including paralegal studies students.

Since its centennial in 2001, the Court has heard oral argument in venues across the state to enable Hoosiers to learn about the judicial branch. Sites typically include law schools, colleges, high schools, and county courthouses.

The Court of Appeals will convene next Thursday at 1 pm on the VU Campus
