A Vincennes Emergency Medical Technician was recognized for coming to the aid of a city police officer.

Police Chief Dusty Luking presented Steph  Vance with the Police Department’s Citizen Accommodation Award during Monday’s Vincennes Board of Works Meeting. .

On July 1st of this year, Luking says an ambulance was transporting a male suspect to Good Samaritan Hospital who had ingested Bath Salts and was heavily intoxicated..

Luking says the male became combatitive and the ambulance called police to assist them.

Officer Stacey Reece responded to the call. As she was wrestling with the suspect, Luking says the suspect started choking Reece.

Luking says if Vance hadn’t stepped in when he did the incident could’ve escalated and ended up with someone either injured or dead.

Officer Reece recommended Vance for the honor. Luking says it’s good to know that someone is willing to step in to assist an officer when help is needed.
