Brian Hagen was elected on Saturday to replace Gordon Becher as Knox County Coroner.
Democratic Precinct Committeeman met at Vincennes City Hall to choose between Hagen and Vincennes City Firefighter Tony Jarrell.
Hagen is a captain on the Vincennes City Police Department. He has served as deputy coroner for the past 14-years.
Becher announced earlier this month that he was stepping down to take a position with the State Fire Marshal’s office.
The new coroner must also be approved by Governor Mike Pence.
The coroner’s office will be up for election next year.
