Vincennes City Engineer John Sprague says that Milestone Contractors will begin milling and resurfacing at various locations around town today (Wednesday).

The milling of 6th Street will begin on Thursday. Traffic will be controlled by flagmen and cross streets will be closed preventing traffic from entering or exiting onto 6th Street.

That will complete the work from College to Hart in one phase and from Hart to Vigo in the second phase. Motorists are advised to use 7th Street as an alternate route.

There will be short term daytime closures for all the streets in the paving contract. The dates are subject to change due to weather conditions.

City Inspector Phillip Cooper has announced that beginning at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, a portion of Main Street will be blocked off for a period of two-weeks in order to facilitate the demolition of a building located at 401-403 Main.

Cooper says one block of Main, between 4th and 5th Streets, will be closed. The section of South 4th Street, from the alleyway to Main Street, will also be closed.

The Vincennes Board of Works last week approved a contract with Klenck Company of Evansville for the demolition of the building that once housed Kathy’s Kreations and Sweet Treats.

Cooper deemed unsafe after consulting with an Indianapolis Engineer. He says one of the building’s outer walls was in danger of collapsing at any time.

The owner of the property indicated she didn’t have the money to make the necessary repairs.

It will cost the city over 205-thousand dollars to have the building razed. Mayor Joe Yochum says a lien will placed on the property so that if it’s ever sold, the city will seek to recoup their money for demolition.
