Vincennes Police Department headquarters is in desperate need of new windows. At last night’s city council meeting, a representative with the Southern Indiana Development Commission presented a solution to the problem.

SIDC is applying for a Historic Preservation grant on behalf of the city.

With the grant money the city would be able to renovate 15 of the larger windows in the police department and 20 of the smaller ones.

The window work would cost around $66,000. The local match for the grant to cover the windows and consulting fee’s is $49,600.

However if the city plans to renovate other parts of the police department the max local match would be $66,500.

The submission date for the grant is October 2nd. The city wont know until roughly April or March if they receive the grant.

Council members voted to have the SIDC proceed with applying for the grant.
