Doris J. Rice, age 94, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at her residence. She was born December 27, 1920, in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Roberta (Brubeck) Catterton. She married Harry A. Rice on December 31, 1941. Harry preceded her in death on October 26, 2002.
Doris was co-owner, along with her husband, of Harry A. Rice Insurance Agency for more than 50 years. She was a longtime member of Zion United Methodist Church where she taught SundaySchool.
Besides her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by her brother, James Catteron, her sister Gwendolyn Cummings and a granddaughter, Miranda Rice.
Survivors include: two sons, Harry J. (Linda) Rice and Robert “Bo” (Theresa) Rice all of Lawrenceville; three grandchildren, Brady (Nicole) Rice of Lawrenceville, Jennifer (John) Guzman of Evansville, IN, and Molly (Matthew) Pettit of Washington Court House OH; eight great-grandchildren, Samuel James Rice, Hannah Joie Rice, Felicity Miranda Pettit, Gabe Guzman, Victoria Guzman, Cecilia Guzman, Jacob Pettit and Jacinta Pettit.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, Lawrence County Humane Society, Zion United Methodist Church, or the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital Endowment and Development Fund with envelopes available through the funeral home.
