Nicholas “Nick” Julian Macari

Nicholas “Nick” Julian Macari, 71, Vincennes, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015 at the New Willow Manor. Nick was born July 9, 1944, in Clinton, IN, the son of Nicholas Joseph and Ann Agnes (Dirbas) Macari. He attended St. John’s the Baptist Catholic grade school and then went on to Central Catholic High School where he graduated in 1962. He was drafted into the United States Army in September 1968 and he returned in June of 1970. Nick attended Purdue University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in math in 1972 and his Master’s Degree in Linguistics in 1975. He went on to teach English Composition at the University of Texas from 1979 to 1984. He also taught at LSU from January 1984 to June 1986. He then moved back to Vincennes in November 1986, where he then worked on his dessertation from 1987 to 1988. He then taught at Vincennes University in the fall of 1987. He then received his PHD in linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin in May of 1990. Nick then returned home to Vincennes in 1990 to help his mother with her failing health, and she passed away that year. He then worked at the Purdue turkey factory in 1992. He was a member of St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may visit from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Vincennes Chapel, 313 Church St. A graveside service will be held immediately after visitation at Mt.
