The Knox County Council last night formerly adopted the 2016 budget.

Council President Bob Lechner called the budget plan sound and addresses several needs brought up during last month’s budget discussions with department heads.

Lechner says the new budget provides a 3-percent pay raise for county employees as well as stipend for those workers who’ve been with the county more than 5-years.

Lechner says longevity pay is something that employees and office holders have advocated for several years.

A public hearing was held on the budget prior to the council adopting the plan. No one from the public appeared to voice opposition or ask any questions about the budget process..
