As more job opportunities in the fields of life sciences and technology continue to open up, State Senator Mark Messmer of Jasper says there’s also a need for qualified educators in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math to train students.

Messmer says the Indiana Commission for Higher Education recently announced they are accepting applications for the STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund grants until Friday, Oct. 2. The grant program provides financial support to organizations working to recruit, prepare and retain educators in schools where there are shortages of teachers in STEM subject areas.

To be eligible for the grant, applicants must present programs that result in individuals becoming licensed or trained to teach science, technology, engineering or math in Indiana public K-12 schools.

Messmer says the full grant application and budget worksheet can be found online at www.in.gov/che.
