The Vincennes Fire Department is looking to add a rescue boat to their life saving gear.

With so many bodies of water surrounding the city, Battalion Chief Tony Jarrell says it’s essential that they have a boat available to conduct a water rescue.

He says they currently share a boat with the Vincennes Township Fire Department that was purchased through a Department of Homeland Security grant 10 years ago.

This year alone, Jarrell says the fire department has conducted three water rescues. He says they are looking at purchasing two boats, one of them would be an inflatable craft.

Jarrell says they are appealing to the public for help in raising $50,000 for the two boats.

He says donations can be made by going to the Vincennes Fire Department’s Facebook page or persons can drop off a donation at Fire Department Headquarters at 928 Vigo Street in Vincennes.
