Martha J. Hitt, 83, passed away at 5:00 am on August 18, 2015 at the Lodge of the Wabash. Martha was born on November 6, 1927 in Vincennes the daughter of William Louis and Esther Irene (Dyhouse) Leinbach. She married James Averall Hitt in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1989.
Martha had worked at Brown Shoe Factory and was a Jehovah’s Witness. She enjoyed bird watching, singing and gardening.
Survivors include her children, Jim Hitt of California, John Hitt of Vincennes, Jane Hitt of Fennville, MI, David Hitt of Coldwater,MI, Roger Hitt of Evansville, Sue Collins of Bicknell; nineteen grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren; and a cousin Jerry McGaughey.
Funeral services for Martha will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Evans officiating. There will be a graveside service at 10:00 am on Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with Martha’s family on Saturday from 4-8 pm at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home.
