Now that the Wabash River is below Flood Stage work is getting underway on several levee related projects.

Levee Superintendent Hunter Pinnell told members of the Vincennes Redevelopment Commission yesterday that work is underway to enclose the entrance to Pearl City. A new road will be built over the top of the enclosure to allow residents access.

Pinnell says the second project involves raising the South Lawn of the George Rogers National Historical Park. However, they’ve hit a snag with that project after it was discovered water sprinklers were located in the targeted area.

He told RDC members that the scope of the project will have to be redesigned.

Pinnell says they plan to raise the south lawn by 3-feet with a gradual slope to the levee so that the Parks Service can continue to hold activities such as the Vincennes Rendezvous.
