Vera Louise Kirkwood, 89, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Saturday August 15, 2015 at the United Methodist Village North Campus.

Born April 5, 1926 in Lawrenceville, IL she was the daughter of John and Leila (Lockman) Lockhart. She married James Edgar Kirkwood on June 16, 1946 in Bridgeport, IL. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1992.

Vera worked at Jiffy Cleaners in Lawrenceville from 1970 to 1975. She then worked at Cannon’s Laundromat from 1975 to 1990. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville where she also taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Elks. She volunteered for the election board.

Surviving are a son: Jerald Kirkwood and his wife Veronica of Lawrenceville, IL, a daughter: Deborah Ayers and her husband Mike of Bridgeport, IL, four sisters: Kathleen Miller of Portage, IN, Pauline Marie “Peg” Kirkwood of Lawrenceville, IL, Norma June Elliott and her husband Charles of Alton, IL, Mary Ann Mickler and her husband Dan of Lawrenceville, IL, three grandchildren: Tyler Kirkwood, Jodi Hill, Emily Davis and four great-grandchildren: Kendall Davis, Carter Davis, Maxi Kirkwood, and Charlee Jo Hill.

Along with her parents and husband, a son James Joseph Kirkwood, two brothers: Robert Lockhart, James Lockhart, and three sisters: Imogene Hensley, Evelyn Pargin, and Reba Shidler all preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.

Visitation is also Wednesday from 9:00 until the service hour of 11:00am.

Burial will be at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to the First United Methodist Church.
