Complaints persist about parking in downtown Lawrenceville. Employees who pay the city 30-dollars a month for a reserved parking space are finding others taking their spot, if they have to leave for any amount of time.

Mayor Don Wagner understands it’s an issue and the police department is doing the best they can to ticket offenders.

One person suggested the city hire an enforcement officer who could monitor the parking spaces downtown. Wagner stated that he wasn’t prepared to hire any additional staff especially with the state looking to cut certain funds due to its own budget problems.

The fine for parking illegally in a reserved lot is 15-dollars. Councilman Danny Lynn suggested that the council re-visit increasing the fine in order to get people’s attention. Wagner says they would take the suggestion under advisement.

The Lawrenceville City Council last night ratified a new one year contract with the union representing city workers. Details of the new agreement were not immediately available because the employees union had not voted on the contract yet.

In other business, Mayor Don Wagner announced the city had renewed it’s sanitation contract with Republic Services. Wagner says the one year agreement doesn’t include any increase for trash pick-up.

The city will continue to pay 10-dollars and 69-cents per customer. Lawrenceville residents who signed up for trash service will continue to pay 8-dollars per month on their water bill.

The Mayor announced that the city has renewed their health insurance with Blue Cross-Blue Shield at a savings of 4-percent to the city.
