Dilapidated buildings to come down soon

The OK has been given to city officials to tear down nearly 30 abandoned homes in Vincennes. According to the Vincennes Sun Commercial, City inspector Phil Cooper held a public hearing this week at  to speak about the houses on the city’s demolition list, but no one spoke for or against razing the homes.  So they are free to move forward in trying to acquire all of them and tear them down.

The city received $390,000 from the state fund last fall to tear down problem homes. In February, because there was money left over, the city applied for and received more than $250,000 more. Cooper says he hopes to have the first home demolished within a couple of months.

One house on the list, located at South Fourth Street, has been removed from the list due to the Vincennes Preservation Foundation acquiring it. The Foundation hopes to raise enough money to restore it.
