Members of the Vincennes Redevelopment Commission plan to revisit the Main Street Project before the end of the year. Board Member Tim Smith believes its still a valid project.

Smith says he would like to hold a joint meeting with members of the City Council and Mayor Joe Yochum to gauage their interest. The original plans called of adding two 11 foot driving lanes with a turn lane from the U.S. 41 Overpass out to Clark Middle School. The plan also called for sidewalks, Street lighting and a four foot bicycle lane.

The estimated price tag for the project is just over 9-point-3 million dollars. The City has applied through the Indiana Department of Transportation for funding through its 2019 call for projects, but has yet to hear back on their application. According to Mayor Yochum the city would need to provide a 20-percent local match in order to obtain funding.

Smith says even if the state won’t fund the project….they could either do it in phases using money from the City’s TIF district or bond the project.
