The honors continue to pour in for retiring Vincennes University President Dick Helton. On Tuesday, Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellsperman presented Helton with the Sagamore of the Wabash Award at the State Capitol.

The presentation was part of a reception for Helton and his wife Cindy. The Sagamore of the Wabash is given to those Hoosiers who have rendered distinguished service to the state.

In making the presentation, Ellspermann said that Helton has “improved the lives of thousands of students and their families” across the state during his 47 years in public education. Helton said if he had it to do all over again he would choose public education as his career because he has enjoyed serving students.

VU faculty and staff are invited to attend a “Salute to the Heltons” reception on Tuesday, July 28 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Green Activities Center on the V-U.
