Dr. Richard Helton attends his last VU Board of Trustees Meeting

VU President Dr. Richard Helton did attended  his last Board of Trustees meeting Friday morning.

Helton is the longest serving president among the public universities in
the state. He announced on May 27 his plans to retire after serving for 11
years as VU President.

As part of Friday’s meeting,  the Board of Trustees adopted a resolution of
appreciation for Helton. Citing his service, the resolution praises Helton’s
quote “extraordinary and transformational leadership.” It also cites Helton as a
quote “gifted leader who has united trustees, administration, faculty, staff,
alumni, and the community with a shared and focused direction and purpose.”
Since his arrival in 2004 VU has experienced historic growth with
system-wide headcount enrollment last fall surpassing 19,000 students,
marking eight years of continuous growth.

Meanwhile, The board announced  Dr. Charles Johnson will serve as Interim President of Vincennes University. Johnson will take the reigns from retiring President Dr. Dick Helton on August 1st.

Johnson currently serves as Provost for VU…….

A replacement interim provost for Johnson has not been announced at this time.

 


 

The VU Board of Trustees adopted their budget that was proposed last month.

It calls for a 1.42 increase in tuition the next two school years.

In total, the budget was 200.1 million dollars, a record for the university.

New construction is a part of the spending plan.  TheUniversity is gearing up to build a Mock Mine Training facility at the Advanced Manufacturing campus in Fort Branch and a new Science, Math and Engineering building at the Vincennes campus.
