Bernard “Bernie” L. Berry

Bernard “Bernie” L. Berry, 91, passed away at 12:43 am on May 6, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital.

 

Bernie was born on April 2, 1924 in Iona, Knox County, IN the son of George and Helen (Mooney) Berry. Bernie married Bernice Smith on July 24, 1946 and she preceded him in death on November 7, 2012.

Bernie was a 1942 graduate of Decker High School and was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, and served his country in the United States Army during WW II. He was a school bus driver for over forty-four years, a truck driver and a self employed farmer. He also was a member of the Wabash Cannon Balls of Vincennes, National Campers and Hikers Association and the American Legion. Bernie enjoyed spending time with his family, camping and spending his winters in Florida.

 

Survivors include his son, J.W. Berry and his wife Denise of Decker; grandchildren, Josh Berry and his wife Sarah of Decker, Brooke Berry of Newburgh, step-grandchildren, Derek Johnson and his wife Amanda of Loogootee, Kierstin Bapple and her husband Luke of Crown Pointe; great grandson, Mason Berry; step great-grandchildren, Emma, Katlyn and Colten Johnson and sister, Margaret Beard of Princeton. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Bernice Berry.

 

Funeral services for Bernie will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Pastor Nathan Rastl officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery where the All Weather Firing Squad will conduct military honors.
