Andrew “A.J.” Leighton Johnson, 30, passed away Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospital.

A.J. was born on Nov. 7, 1984, the son of Robert Johnson and Karen Grannan. A.J. married Lisa Stanczak on June 5, 2010.

A.J. was a 2004 Shakamak High School graduate and worked at Black Panther Coal Mine as a coal miner. He took great pride in his job. He was a member of Followers of Christ Baptist Church, enjoyed working on cars, and was a truck enthusiast. A.J. also collected coal mine, Boy Scout, and Hot Wheel memorabilia. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and scuba diving and loved his dogs.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Johnson of Bicknell; mother and stepfather, Karen and Steve Grannan of Washington; father and stepmother, Robert and Janice Johnson of Jasonville; sister, Heather Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri; brother, Eric Johnson of Jasonville; stepsister, Amy Grannan of Charleston, South Carolina; stepbrother, Shawn Grannan of Moscow, Idaho; stepbrother, Chance Grannan of St. Louis; stepsister, Rene Wright Hopkins of Ft. Wayne; maternal grandparents, Jack and Brenda Kerns of Bicknell; and paternal grandmother, Bernice Dee Montgomery of Vincennes.

Funeral services for A.J. will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, with Pastor Glenn Archer officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Vincennes. Friends may visit with A.J.’s family from 10 a.m. until the hour of service time of 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
